At Whispering Creek, You'll Love the Views, the Conditioning, and the Wide Fairways.

Go ahead, get that driver out and rip away!

As soon as you arrive at Whispering Creek Golf Club, you begin to understand what golf here is all about. It's Prairie golf at its finest with big skies, open vistas, wonderful views, and wide fairways. Natural rough areas and routinely excellent in-season conditioning add to the experience. Whispering Creek can challenge the best golfers but it's very playable from the correct set of tees for the “average” golfer who will love the ample room off the tee. Want to hit that new driver? “Grip it and rip it” at Whispering Creek.

“This is a great golf course, it really is. It offers you a lot of risk reward situations, but you have to think your way around the golf course.”

Jon Brown-Urbandale, Iowa.  2006 Iowa Amateur Champion.

A modern course, Whispering Creek has the latest turfgrass and drainage technologies. We have bentgrass greens and “Low-Mow” Bluegrass in the fairways. The result? A pure roll and consistent speeds on the greens and the ball sitting up perfectly in the fairway off a dense base of turf.

Whispering Creek sits on a beautiful piece of land with just the right amount of undulation. Most of the time, if you are in the fairway, you will get a flat lie. The greens are large. Some are undulating, while others are flattish and sloped. The fairways are wide and inviting but avoid the prairie rough at all costs: even if you find your ball, you may not be able to get a club on the ball. Even though the fairways are wide, you cannot bludgeon Whispering Creek into submission: you have to think and plan your way around the golf course if you want to score well.

The Best Holes at Whispering Creek…Enjoyable for Everyone

The best par-4 at Whispering Creek is probably the 14th, a short par-4 that will tempt you to try to drive the green. If you can do it, and it's achievable with the help of the prevailing wind and the 75-100 yard elevation change, you'll be putting for eagle. However, make a mess of things and a snowman or worse is a possibility. The hole says 403 from the tips but it can play much, much, shorter. Are you going to lay up and play safe and take the easy par or bogey or are you going to go for it? It's decision time at Whispering Creek!

Of the excellent one-shot holes at Whispering Creek, the best might be the 17th, a 161-yard par-3 that provides a good chance for a late birdie. If the match is tight right now, here's where it could end and a par might not be good enough. One of the prettiest holes on a beautiful golf course, the 17th starts with a tee box that's over 75 feet above the green. Original willow trees and a sod-walled pot bunker guard the green.

Another potential birdie awaits on the 18th, an excellent risk-reward par-5 that's 551 yards from the men's regular tees and over 600 yards from the tips. Only the monster hitters will reach this hole in two shots so for most, the key is setting up a short and manageable third shot. Do that and you'll walk away with a well-deserved four.
